Mont Negre, Serralongue commune, Pyrénées-Orientales (66), France.

Summary

edit
Description
English: The commune lies within the Axial Zone of the Pyrenees Mountain chain. Most of the commune is underlain by hercynian granite (c 300Ma), as on the summit of Mont Negre, the highest point in the commune (1425m).

View towards the south. There is an abrupt geological change along the southern frontier of the commune, which also marks the boundary between the Axial Zone of the Pyrenees and the South Pyrenean Zone. To the south of that boundary rise ridges (in Catalonia) of Eocene marls with calcareous bands (c 50Ma).
