English: Montgomery County Juvenile Court joined schools and courts across the country to come together for an honest conversation about how drugs and alcohol affect the brain, body and behavior during NDAFW.
Drug Facts Game Night was organized by the staff of Montgomery County Juvenile Drug Court and Reclaiming Futures. The night was hosted by the Honorable Anthony Capizzi and 24 Drug Court youth attended the event. The night started with an ice breaker game of Clever Catch. A ball containing questions and scenarios was passed to the youth by Judge Capizzi. This game provided a way to dispel the myths associated with drug and alcohol use and to discuss situations the youth could be faced with involving drugs and alcohol. This was followed by a dinner and a game of Drug and Alcohol Facts Bingo. Judge Capizzi quizzed the youth on drug and alcohol facts and the harmful effects these have on their health. The youth were able to fill up their bingo cards with correct answers and win prizes, which included portable speakers, cell phone stands, selfie sticks, earbuds and body lotions. Overall, the night was a success and youth were able to have fun while also receiving the facts about how alcohol and drugs can affect them, both in the short-term and over their lifetime. The goal is that they can be better prepared to make good decisions for themselves and they can share this information with others. During this same week, 30 youth involved with Montgomery County Juvenile Court submitted artwork for the Drug Abuse Prevention Poster Contest, intended to get youth involved with pro-social activities like art. Juvenile Court staff encouraged youth to complete artwork at home and school, and provided supplies with assistance from K12 Art Gallery. In addition, the artwork will be reproduced and distributed at various Coalition events within the community. Montgomery County, Md.
