English: Montgomery of Eglinton or Montgomerie of Eglinton tartan, originally "No. 7" from the William Wilson & Son of Bannockburn Key Pattern Book (1819). There's a wild claim that it dates to the early 18th century but there is no evidence for this whatsoever.

This version of the image is full-sett and can tile horizontally and vertically. Scottish Register of Tartans' far too credulous notes on this pattern: "This was originally Wilson's No. 7 or 'Eglinton'. It was later adopted by the Montgomeries of Ayrshire and D.W. Stewart thought this took place about the time of the Union (1707). Jamie Scarlett MBE comments that if that is correct, it must be one of the earliest genuine Lowland tartans that we have." Warning: This is unreliable "information". D. W. Stewart, like other Victorian writers, was notorious for asserting the antiquity of clan tartans without any evidence. This particular pattern is known to originate as a numbered "fancy" or "fashion" pattern in the Wilsons of Bannockburn pattern book of the early 19th century.

This is a normal, mirroring tartan. Thread count from SRT, in slash notation: /K8 R10 K8 DP56 K8 G10 K8/ or in bold notation: K8 R10 K8 DP56 K8 G10 K8 (where DP = dark purple; if you render this in regular purple, the result is very garish.)
