Shows board sluiceway with floodgates designed to regulate the water flow between the lakes On verso of image: Inlet from Lake Washington into Lake Union taken soon after completion of the ditch; probably about 1885. Note that hill in background is logged off; also logs in the foreground have come from Lake Washington through the ditch. White spot on opposite shore at right is Lake Union Jim's home.; Looking from Portage across Lake Union to Capitol Hill about 1890
