Description
Español: El Monumento a Caupolicán está ubicado en la intersección de Caupolicán con calle Manuel Montt, en la ciudad de Temuco. Fue creado por el escultor José Troncoso Cuevas en homenaje al toqui Caupolicán, que lideró la resistencia y ofensiva de las fuerzas mapuches en el siglo XVI. Participó junto a Lautaro en la batalla de Tucapel, entre el 25 de diciembre de 1553 y el 1 de enero de 1554. Esta batalla marcó un punto de inflexión en la “guerra de Arauco”, dado que en ella fue aniquilada la fuerza expedicionaria de Pedro de Valdivia, compuesta por 63 conquistadores y cerca de 150 yanaconas, encontrando la muerte el mismo gobernador del reino de Chile.
