| Description | Catarina Chitas, ou Ti Chitas (Penha Garcia, 30.01.1913 - 08.03.2003) como era conhecida, foi uma pastora de Penha Garcia que também tocava adufe. As primeiras gravações terão sido feitas por Ernesto Veiga de Oliveira e Benjamim Pereira em 1963. Em 1964, por ocasião do I Congresso Nacional de Turismo, a Fundação Gulbenkian levou a efeito uma exposição sobre Instrumentos Musicais. A Região da Beira Baixa esteve representada pela tocadora de adufe, Catarina Chitas. Michel Giacometti gravou em 1970 para a série produzida pela RTP “Povo que canta”, publicado em 1970/1996 - Antologia da Música Regional Portuguesa. Beira Alta. Beira Baixa. Beira Litoral. Em 1982 por José Alberto Sardinha, em “Recolhas da Tradição Oral Portuguesa – Beira Baixa e Minho”, e em 1997, em “Portugal Raízes Musicais – nº 4 Beira Baixa e Beira Transmontana”. Em 1984 a Banda do Casaco editou o disco "Com Ti Chitas". A Câmara Municipal de Idanha a Nova editou em 1991 um LP com 17 faixas, inteiramente dedicado a Catarina Chitas. Em 1992, é editado na Collection Dominique Buscall o CD “Music du Monde – Portugal: Chants et tambours de Beira Baixa”, em que Catarina Chitas canta em nove faixas. Em 1994, um CD concebido e realizado por Jacques Erwain, “Voyage Musical Portugal – Le Portugal et les Iles”, inclui duas gravações de Catarina Chitas e um depoimento biográfico feito pela mesma. Um dos destaques da edição de 2002 do Festival Cantigas de Maio foi a exposição "Colectores de Música Popular Portuguesa" com a orientação de Domingos Morais. Daí resultou a edição do primeiro CD da Associação José Afonso com gravações de Catarina Chitas (Ti Chitas).
