Description |
English: Beginning in about 1918, the Seattle Park Board hosted annual picnics at the "original" Carkeek Park (1918-1926) on Pontiac Bay at Lake Washington, later the site of the Sand Point Naval Station and now Magnuson Park. These annual luncheon picnics were attended by donors to the park and their friends on the anniversary of the donation of the park by Morgan and Emily Carkeek. Guests included delegations from the Seattle Historical Society, the City Council, the Chamber of Commerce and the Optimist Club. This photo shows Morgan and Emily Carkeek, seated on a bench in the center of the photo, at the Park Board's 1923 picnic at Carkeek Park. This image comes from a photograph album created by Emily Carkeek of Founders' Day parties and Carkeek Park picnics.
