Summary edit

Description
English: Mortar mix inside a bucket. Start with about a fifth of a 5-gallon bucket with clean water. Add powder mortar mix slowly, stirring with a trowel. Wear gloves (do not expose skin to mortar). Using a mixing propeller attached to a drill-driver can speed up mixing. If mix is too soupy, it's not ready; keep adding powder. When mix is of a firm consistency (photo), it's ready for use. It will harden soon; do not let it sit. If mix gets too clumpy, add a tiny bit of water. Photo source: here (says "public domain" at top of file).
