English: Mossy bank on the Beaulieu River, New Forest The bank of the Beaulieu River in the foreground is covered with bright green moss. There is a small gravel island in the river. The riverine woodland along this stretch of the river is markedly different to the damp heath that surrounds it. The river brings nutrients and deposits silt during seasonal flooding that improves the fertility of the soil on its banks. |
