Description
Svenska: Motala stads vapen från 1881 fram till 1949 då ett nytt vapen fastställdes. Staden uppgick 1970 i administrativt i Motala kommun.

Blasonering: Två gånger styckad av silver, vari två motvända nedåtriktade svarta vingar, blått och rött, vari en propeller av silver överlagd två korslagda merkuriestavar av guld.

Om vingarna: Enligt samtida avbildningar av vapnet (t.ex. [1]) bör vingarna vara uptill utformade som markattehuvuden. Detta överenstämmer även med att vingarna (med markattehuvuden) kommer från vapnet för greve Baltzar von Platen. Av denna anledning har min tolkning vingar med markattehuvuden uptill.
