Summary
editDescriptionMouse's Tank, Valley of Fire State Park, NV.jpg |
English: Located among many red sandstone formations, Mouse’s Tank, a bowl-shaped water basin in one of the rocks, was named for a Southern Paiute man, “Little Mouse,” who hid out there in the 1890s to hide from the law after being accused of killing two prospectors in the area. The area is also home to many petroglyphs on the rock faces, which are endangered by mechanical weathering causes by tourists climbing on and sliding down the faces of the rock. Located near Overton, Nevada, north of Las Vegas, the Valley of Fire State Park is home to a series of sandstone formations formed from 150 million-year-Old sand dunes, and is the oldest state park in Nevada, having been opened in 1934. Today, the park is notable for its otherworldly appearance and natural beauty, being one of the great natural wonders that can be found near the city of Las Vegas in the surrounding desert. |
