Description
English: Four soldiers sitting on the axles of a gun- or ammunition-limber. The wheels of the limber are heavily covered in thick mud and it is possible that it had just been pulled out of the mud after being stuck. Mud was a constant problem on the Western Front.

Many of the transports for guns and ammunition were limbers rather than rigid-based carts. On a limber, the two pairs of wheels were articulated separately. This made it easier to manoeuvre them around in the difficult conditions.
