The sarcomeres from which the muscle fiber is composed, or the contractile units of striated muscle tissue, are easily observed. These are arranged one after the other and form contractile bundles called myofibrils wrapped in a membrane called sarcolemma. The fiber was used for mechanical experiments on individual muscle fibers, in order to detect their contraction force.
