Compare this to an earlier color postcard of the Albert Museum by the same firm from the same image, made when color printing of postcards from photographs was much less sophisticated, at least on a level where costs were low enough for mass consumer objects. While the earlier version was hand-stenciled after the black and white postcard was printed, here Stengel & Co., the leading German postcard printing firm of the time, added color during the collotype printing process, creating a much richer and more natural feel to the printed object.
