English: This image shows two crossing cells of the fungus Podospora anserina. Both are labeled with the fluorescent dye JC-1. Areas of low metabolic activity are in green, regions of high metabolic activity yellow/orange. Interestingly, even these small cells demonstrate differences in the activity of metabolism along their length.
