English: Commander Ernest Edwin Evans, U.S. Navy (1908-1944), was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for giving his life as the Commanding Officer of the U.S. Navy destroyer USS Johnston (DD-557) during the Battle off Samar, 25 October 1944.
