Description The National Institute of Arthritis and Metabolic Diseases (NIAMD) was was established in 1950 by U.S. President Harry S. Truman. Sixty years and four name changes later, one thing has never changed: the Institute’s commitment to improving health through high-quality research. The National Institute for Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disease celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2010.
