This new building is the shape of the original lighthouse and keeper’s house. Students at Université Sainte-Anne’s biology department will use this building as a laboratory for bird banding activities. Here students study a number of bird species, set up nesting boxes in Le Petit Bois and also participate in a pan-American study that tracks the migratory patterns of the tiny northern saw-whet owl.

Old Lighthouse

This light was discontinued in 1984, the keepers dwelling was removed from the site years before that. The Université Sainte-Anne founded in 1891 by Eudist priests from France and the only French university in Nova Scotia, maintains the lighthouse. Not much attention has been paid to the lighthouse, there are holes in the tower and it is generally is a state of disrepair. This lighthouse is no longer standing.
