A village near Bastar, in Bastar district, south Chhattisgarh

Summary

edit
Description
English: Narayanpal is a village about 20 kilometers west of Bastar city. It was once a part of a pre-14th century larger capital in the famed Dakshin Kaushala (South Kosala kingdom). This region is called Dandakaranya in the epic Ramayana and as the Kosala kingdom in Mahabharata. Despite the ancient recognition for its scenic waterfalls and forest, documented political history of this region before the 2nd millennium is unknown outside of the mythistory in the Indian epics and Puranas. Even the Epics mention this region as one with a mix of tribal cultures, villages and towns with temples near river banks, waterfalls and large reservoirs. Historic temples from about the 9th century through 14th century survive in this region. The attested history of this region is from Kakatiya era in the Telangana, particularly of Anaam Dev of Warangal who established a regional capital in Bastar by 1324 CE. Narayanpal is named after the famed Vishnu temple (Narayana).
