| Description | Command Sgt. Maj. Shane Lake holds a sword symbolizing his responsibility for the enlisted Soldiers and Airmen of the Oregon National Guard before passing on his duties as the command senior enlisted leader (CSEL) to Command Sgt. Maj. Seven Richmond during a ceremony, Oct. 1, 2016, at the Anderson Readiness Center in Salem, Oregon. The passing of the sword signifies the relinquishing of responsibility and authority from the outgoing to the incoming senior enlisted leader. The sword is no longer worn by the noncommissioned officer, but still held in the highest regard and used symbolically in the change of responsibility ceremony.
