Summary edit

Description

This excerpt was taken from a booklet, compiled by the National Health Education Committee, Inc. and published in 1957, that drew attention to the diseases that were widely believed to be curable with more funds for scientific research. An advisory committee convened by the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare recommended a substantial expansion of FDA staff and facilities, a new headquarters building, and more use of educational and informational programs, all of which strengthened its scientific base beginning in the late 1950’s.
