Title
National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers postcard
Description
Postcard depicting the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Marion, Grant County, Indiana. The first buildings were constructed and the home opened in 1890. In the 1920s, the facility became the Marion National Sanitarium, where World War I veterans could live and receive treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder ("shell shock"). The National Home is on the National Register of Historic Places and is still an active facility as part of the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System.
