Native American camp on Ballast Island, ca. 1895 |
||||||||||||||||||||
Description |
Transcribed from photograph: "Seattle Waterfront. Ca. 1895. Indian camp. Foot of Washington St. on Ballast Island. Two photos by Asahel Curtis." "Two photos by Asahel Curtis" is very unlikely. The date is a bit early for Curtis, though not absolutely out of the question. The lower photo is almost certainly by Boyd & Braas and is attributed to them by quite a few generally reliable archives. The upper one could imaginably be Curtis's, but he did have a tendency to buy up rights to older photos, reprint them, and put his mark on them. |
