English: Caption "Hans Halle (left) confessing to detective. An infernal machine which was cleverly timed to explode outside the harbor of New Orleans aboard a British transport conveying mules to the French army was discovered just as the ship was about to sail. The machine contained a charge of about 100 pounds of dynamite, enough to explode a dozen ships. Hans Halle, a German, confessed that he had placed the infernal machine on the vessel. Halle claims not to have been employed by the German government, but says he expected the German government would reward him in case the vessel were destroyed." |
