Summary
editDescriptionNeatishead Baptist Church - geograph.org.uk - 691681.jpg |
English: Neatishead Baptist Church. The church was founded in 1811 and is now a Grade 2 listed building; a two storey extension that incorporates an addition to the sanctuary and living accommodation - presumably the pastor, and later the caretaker lived there - was added in 1857. William Cubitt (died 1872) and his wife Martha were two of the founder members; another family member, William Quincy Cubitt (of Ivy Farm, Neatishead) is recorded as being a generous supporter of this chapel. Originally, the churchyard was located at the front of the church but was later extended to the back, where burials still take place. Alongside the church were the stables, still containing the original tethering rings. The building also houses two Sunday School rooms and there is an outside toilet. The manse and a caretaker's cottage (both sold), and land at both ends of the site, completed the complex. See also > 691677 |
