English: The customary way to wear decorations with White tie
1 Miniature worn on a brooch on the lapel of the left chest. 2 Miniatures are sometimes worn on a chain on the lapel. This gentleman wears a "Steckkreuz", a German officer cross. 3 A Commander of the Legion of Honor, wearing the neck badge on a ribbon below the tie with miniatures on a chain on the lapel. In England it is customary for neck badges to be worn two 'finger widths' under the tie knot. 4 A Grand Officer of the Order of Orange-Nassau wears a cross around the neck and associated breast star on the left side of the jacket. 5 A Grand Officer of the Order of the Legion of Honor bears a breast star on the right side of the jacket. 6 Men shall not normally exceed one cross around the neck, a broad ribband (also called a sash), four breast stars or badges and miniatures. If no Heads of State or members of reigning royal families are present, the broad ribband is worn under the waistcoat. 7 The Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor ribband is worn above the waistcoat. The small cross is that of the Order of Malta. 8 Knights of the Order of the Garter, the Order of the Thistle and the Supreme Order of the Black Eagle wear their broad ribband on the left. People find it easier to cut the ribbon and pin or button it to the waistcoat. 9 The chain of an order is usually worn above the dinner jacket. |
