English: Neil MacGregor, director of the British Museum, speaking at the dinner hosted by Nasser David Khalili for the formal opening of "Hajj: Journey to the Heart of Islam" exhibition at the museum.
"David [Khalili] joined our rather tenuous caravan right at the beginning and you see this evening the extraordinary generosity with which he has enriched the exhibition. It would have been impossible to tell this story without those great works of art from David's collection and on behalf of all of us in the museum and the thousands who will see this exhibition, that I would like, David, to thank you and your family for your amazing generosity, not just for this exhibition but especially for this exhibition, which will allow, I hope, a new set of people to understand what Hajj is. Thank you very much." |
