English: Nelsonite from the Precambrian of Virginia, USA. (cut surface; ~1.8 centimeters across at its widest)

Nelsonite is a rare igneous rock composed of ilmenite (= black) and apatite (= cream-colored). This small sample is from the type area for nelsonite - Nelson County in Virginia. Nelsonites I've encountered before now had magnetite, ilmenite, and apatite - this sample lacks magnetite. Virginia nelsonites were formerly mined for the titanium in the ilmenite.
