Description
English: Netherlands 1922-09-18 currency control cover sent registered from Meppel to Biberach Germany. Mixed franking of 35c with NVPH 65 and 109. Opened by currency control authorities bureau Emmerich, closed left side with sealing tape with preprinted explanation and reverse purple postmark applied. The tape bears number 6 which is the number for Emmerich. Reverse shows arrival mark 20 SEP 22 in Biberach (RISS).

The exchange control did not open every letter. The opened ones were sealed with tape as shown in this example. Covers not opened were usually marked to show that they had been seen, often this was only the inspector's personal numeral cachet. Occasionally a special handstamp was used including the word 'Freigegeben' (released) or just in handwriting 'gut' (good).
