3. ↑ Die großen Städte bekömmt man satt,
   Dieweil das Gehirn sie erregen.
   Wie fühlt sich der Geist in der kleinen Stadt
   So schön beruhigt dagegen.
4. ↑ Die Gassen liegen so traulich-leer
   Vor dem weltstadtmüden Wandrer,
   Hier schreitet ein wackrer Bürger einher
   Und ganz dahinten ein andrer.
5. ↑ Die Gänse watscheln am Gossenstein,
   Es funkeln lustig und blitzen
   Im freundlichen Morgensonnenschein
   Die Wassertümpel und Pfützen.
6. ↑ Am Marktplatz, an dem wir vorübergehn,
   Vergnügen sich einige Schweine,
   Eine Art von Droschke läßt sich sehn
   Und rumpelt über die Steine.
7. ↑ Noch friedlicher findet der Abend die Stadt,
   Man hört nur den Wächter blasen
   Und - wenn man sehr feine Ohren hat -
   Wie das Gras wächst in den Straßen.
8. ↑ O Stadt der trauten Gemütlichkeit,
   Der Einfachheit und Stille,
   Du mutest in dieser lärmenden Zeit
   Mich an wie eine Idylle.
9. ↑ Hier kann man träumen ungestört
   Von der Weltlust Toben und Tosen,
   Man wird von keiner Zerstreuung bethört
   Und schont dabei seine Hosen.
10. ↑ Uns lockt keine Oper und kein Ballett
    Und keine Posse von Kalisch,
    Man legt sich pünktlich um neun Uhr zu Bett
    Und wird zusehends moralisch.
