La Collégiale Saint-Etienne.

La rotonde. Le déambulatoire de l'étage et la coupole.


La rotonde, a été ajoutée à l'extrémité ouest d'une église antérieure. La date de la fondation de la rotonde, est mentionnée par les chroniques vers 1042-1045.

Le sol du déambulatoire de l'étage a été recouvert d'une dalle de béton armé au début XXe siècle, pour éviter l'écartement des murs de la rotonde.

Avant les restaurations de Viollet-le-Duc, vers 1840, la rotonde était couverte par une toiture conique qui obturait les ouvertures du dernier étage. L'architecte a remplacé cette couverture par un toit en terrasse au-dessus de la tribune du premier étage, transformant ainsi le dernier niveau en clair-étage, coiffé par une coupole.

Vers 1848-1850, Le déambulatoire du premier étage est couvert par une toiture plate en plomb et les baies du deuxième étage du noyau central sont vitrées.
