Summary edit

Description
English: A view of buildings around railroad tracks in New Gormley (West Gormley) in the early 20th century. As was common in those days, small townsites tended to spring up around the railway's closest point of approach to nearby towns, in this case Gormley, just to the east.

From left to right: a blacksmith's shop David and Jacob Heise's house (white) a driveshed for carriages, and the station, center. On the far right is a grain elevator, and in the background between the elevator and station is the offices of the North American Cement Block and Tile Company. The company is now known as Unilock, and continues to operate at this location, greatly expanded.

The James Bay Railway ran from Toronto north to Perry Sound, and was part of Mackenzie and Mann's Canadian Northern Railway (CNoR). It was renamed the Canadian Northern Ontario Railway in 1906 and ultimately became part of Canadian National Railways. Today the line is known as the Bala Subdivision, and hosts both CN mainline traffic and GO service. This station was removed, but a new GO station has opened just to the north, around the bend seen in this image.
