Description
English: View north west of the Durham Coast Line on the approach to the newly completed Horden railway station seen on its opening day, 29/06/2020. The station is viewed from Acacia Avenue Bridge. The platform on the left side of the tracks is the down (northbound) Platform 2 and that on the right side is the up (southbond) Platform 1. Beyond the station can be seen the village of Horden (left-background) and the site of Horden Colliery (centre-background). Beyond here, the line continues to Seaham and Sunderland. The new Horden station replaces an earlier station (a short distance behind the photographer) which existed between 1 April 1905 and 4 May 1964; it was closed as part of the Beeching cuts.
