Summary edit

Description
English: The New Testament Revival Cathedral, 983 Kensington Avenue at Midvale Avenue, Buffalo, New York, May 2020. A Late Gothic Revival-style church building dating to 1927, Charles F. Obenhack's design was a simplified interpretation of the style that's typical of the period: brick façade, cross-topped parapet gable, entrance topped in turn with a compound segmental arch and a large stained-glass window with tracery. Kensington Evangelical Lutheran Church was the original owner of the building, a congregation that dates back to 1919, the very beginning stages of the urbanization of this part of town, founded by the Buffalo Extension Society so as to assure a Lutheran presence in the area from the outset. Growth was predictably rapid, and the small frame church dedicated in 1920 was replaced in short order with this more substantial one. The congregation endured until 1993, when demographic changes in the neighborhood led to its closure; its current occupant, the New Testament Revival Cathedral, is an African-American congregation that's been active in the building since at least 2001.
