English: New railway maintenance facility at Machynlleth. Not a particularly good view, but the best available from public access areas. The grey shed is a new diesel train maintenance facility in the yard at Machynlleth, opened in August 2007 and viewed here from the station footbridge. Built at a cost of £3m, it greatly increases the range of repairs that can be carried out at Machynlleth. Trains needing major repairs had previously to be taken to Cardiff, often causing stock availability problems. This is another example of welcome investment in the Cambrian rail network. See also 581085. |
