English: This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 22 October 2022, shows the Turkish town of Enez, on the Aegean Sea coastline, an area characterised by a rich and millennial history. Thanks to the European Union project ‘Treasure’, aimed at protecting the important local cultural heritage, an underwater museum has been opened, where divers can see the replicas of original statues found at the site, located two kilometres off the coast, at a depth of 18 metres. The rich underwater environment is also preserved to protect the local marine habitats which are rich in biodiversity. The data provided by the Copernicus Sentinel satellites and services make it possible to extract key information on the state of implementation of European policies, including those related to the protection of marine areas. |
