Description
Français : Portrait of Baroness Le Leu d'Aubilly, full-length, in a white dress with a gold trim and a blue wrap, and her daughter Madame de Guinaumont, seated, in a red dress, holding a wreath of flowers, in a wooded landscape
English: Lot Essay: "This spectacular, signed and dated, large-scale double portrait represents Marie Lelarge, wife of Nicolas Le Leu, the enormously rich seigneur of Cernay and the barony of Aubilly, reçeveur des tailles (tax collector) for the province of Reims, and Secretary to the King in 1712. Their daughter Nicole married Pierre-Louis Loisson, seigneur de Guinaumont, in 1723; widowed, she married again, to Pierre Daulnay de Coulanges. We are grateful to Dominique Brême for having confirmed the attribution to Largillièrre after examining the painting. M. Brême will include this work in his forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the artist's paintings." [1]
