Description |
English: Night Scene on a Wooded Riverbank, chiaroscuro drawing. Brush (black), grey wash, white heightening, on dark olive-green prepared paper, 15.1 × 17.5 cm, State Graphics Collection, Munich. The drawing is in very poor condition, with numerous folds that have caused the primer to peel.
Scholars have been unable to divine the subject of this drawing, or whether it was part of an independent work or a design for a panel or wall painting (Müller, 214–16). It seems to have been cut from the same sheet as a scene with classical figures, in which it may have been a background. |
