Original field notes: Note lovely sandy beach (good for turtles), coconut palms (still used today by temporary copra cutters from the Gilbert Is.), and indigenous vegetation along the strand (an excellent buffer against high seas and winds, showing that the Gilbertese wisely knew not to plant every square inch of land in coconut palms). |
