Summary

Description
English: Nissen-type hut, Belfast A genuine Nissen hut is a prefabricated building of corrugated steel, in the shape of a half cylinder, used especially by military personnel as a shelter. Named after Peter Norman Nissen (1871-1930) an army officer and mining engineer. The standard size was (apparently) 140X24X12ft. This one, deep in the bushes and partly-overgrown with ivy, is between the Lockview Road and the Boat Club at Stranmillis. (Note: the Google map shows a non-existent stretch of water).
