English: Noor, 30, is a Rohingya refugee in Bangladesh. She lost one of her daughters when they fled their village due to ethnic violence in Myanmar. Her daughter is about 10 years old.
It was dark and everyone was running around when she got lost. She says she didn’t see the soldiers coming but saw fires at the edge of her village and people shouting. Her husband stayed back and hid in the jungle to find their daughter once the soldiers had left but when he returned their home had been burned to the ground. He has now joined Noor in Bangladesh. They’ve been asking around to see if anyone has seen their daughter, but Noor thinks she is dead. She has no hope of seeing her alive, she says. Noor wants to be back in Myanmar but says they are receiving food so they are okay. Her family will do whatever is best to survive. Photo credit: Anna Dubuis/DFID |
