editDescriptionGrímsfjall seen from Norðbergseiði.jpg |
English: This photo was taken in wintertime on Norðbergseiði west of the village Hvalba in Suðuroy, Faroe Islands. That giant rock on the foot of the cliff was a part of the cliff, but it crashed down sometimes in the 1980'ies. The people of Hvalba heard it and felt it. The distance between the east and west coast is very short in Hvalba, around 1 km. There are two so-called Eiði in Hvalba, both on the west coast, the other eiði is called Hvalbiareiði or Fiskieiði and used to be a fish harbour. This place used to be a dumping place for garbage, but the last decades all garbage in the Faroe Islands has been collected and burned. Norðbergseiði is developing into a tourist attraction. In 2009 men from Hvalba started to offer rappelling for tourists. People come here to enjoy the view. A road goes all the way to the edge of Norðbergseiði.
Tangin eitur Kolaratangi. |
