Description

This is an eastbound Norfolk Southern Railway freight train at Horseshoe Curve, west of Altoona, Pennsylvania, USA. It is headed by three units, the third of which is shown above - Norfolk Southern # 1143, a General Motors Electro-Motive Division SD70ACe that was built in November 2014.

The rocks in the Horseshoe Curve railroad cut (Kittanning Point; Kittanning Mountain) are fluvial sandstones of the Rockwell Formation (Famennian Stage to Kinderhookian Stage, upper Upper Devonian to lower Lower Mississippian).
