Summary edit

Description

This is a westbound Norfolk Southern Railway freight train in the late morning of 10 May 2016 at Horseshoe Curve, west of Altoona, Pennsylvania, USA. NS # 7211 is the second unit - it is a General Motors Electro-Motive Division SD80MAC.

  1. 7211 was built in April 1996 and saw service in blue-and-white paint at Conrail # 4119. After Conrail was acquired by CSX and Norfolk Southern, the unit became NS # 7211 and was repainted in NS black-and-white.
The rocks in the Horseshoe Curve railroad cut (Kittanning Point; Kittanning Mountain) are fluvial sandstones of the Rockwell Formation (Famennian Stage to Kinderhookian Stage, upper Upper Devonian to lower Lower Mississippian).
