Summary edit

Description

This is an eastbound Norfolk Southern freight train at Horseshoe Curve, Pennsylvania in the late morning on 10 May 2016. The head end had four engines, three of which were bearing standard black-and-white NS paint jobs. The fourth unit was Norfolk Southern Railway # 911, a commemorative engine with a colorful, one-of-a-kind paint job. It honors "First Responders" - police, fire fighters, and hospital emergency personnel.

The rocks in the Horseshoe Curve railroad cut (Kittanning Point; Kittanning Mountain) are fluvial sandstones of the Rockwell Formation (Famennian Stage to Kinderhookian Stage, upper Upper Devonian to lower Lower Mississippian).
