Summary edit

Description

The Soviet Air Force received 862 B-25 during WW2, so it is appropriate that one is preserved in the Air Force Museum. This is an early 'D' model with the dorsal turret in the rear fuselage. There are several non-standard modifications on this aircraft. The dorsal turret is of Soviet design, and a twin-gun ventral turret is fitted. Ventral turrets were usually plated over on US operated B-25's. The most significant difference, however, is that the aircraft appears to be fitted with the engines and propellers from a Douglas A-20. Given how well the cowlings are fitted, I would guess that this was an in-service modification, although I can find no evidence of this being carried out regularly. This aircraft's allocated US military serial was 43-3355. It was originally on display coded '50 white'. c/n 100-23681. On display at the Russian Air Force Museum. Monino, Russia.
