Description
English: c/n 122-39723.

Built as P-51D-25-NA in 1945 with the US military serial 44-73264. Delivered in March that year and assigned to the 343rd Fighter Squadron, part of the 55th Fighter Group at RAF Wormingford in the UK. Returned to the USA in July 1945. Remained in USAF service until 1957, serving with various fighter-bomber squadrons and re-designated as an F-51D. Civil registered as N5428V in 1963 and flew with several different private owners before joining the Commemorative Air Force (then called the Confederate Air Force) in 1970. Sold on in 1972, it has been reported that she was illegally flown to El Salvador in 1973 and flown by Salvadorian and mercenary pilots during the ‘Soccer war’ with Honduras. She was back in the USA and with the ‘CAF’ by 1977 and she remains in their operation today. She is seen carrying out rides on the morning of the Commemorative Air Force’s ‘Wings Over Dallas’ WWII Airshow. Dallas Executive Airport, Redbird, Dallas, Texas.
