| Description |
A shot of James H. McGill's Northern Liberty Market (aka Convention Hall or K Street Market) from the 5/24/08 "Washington Times". Geotagged Located on the east side of Fifth Street, NW between K and L, it was built in 1874 to replace the original Northern Liberty Market on Mount Vernon Square. Although gutted by fire in 1946, it survived (after a disfiguring renovation) until 1985. The CityVista condominiums are now on the site. It is included in the D.C. Inventory of Historic Sites. The DC Public Library has posted a beautiful undated lantern slide of this building. Shorpy has a very detailed 1920 shot of it from the Library of Congress' National Photo Company collection. |
