Português: Notícias Diversas: A Exposição de Sevilha Final do mandato de governador do engenheiro e capitão de Artilharia Ernesto Florêncio da Cunha (1890-1980) Alerta do problema que se adivinhava da deslocação da estátua de Zarco a Sevilha, onde foi premiada e então a ser feita por Francisco Franco (1885-1955) no atelier da antiga capela da Encarnação, anexa ao palácio da Junta Geral e que o governo de Lisboa não autorizaria que fosse paga a deslocação pela Junta, tendo-se de recorrer a uma subscrição pública. A Exposição Ibero-Americana de 1929 foi uma feira mundial realizada em Sevilha, de 9 de maio de 1929 a 21 de junho de 1930. Esta exposição Ibero-americana foi uma contraparte da Exposição Internacional de Barcelona de 1929, que albergara os países europeus, tendo a de Sevilha abrigado os latino-americanos, mas também Portugal e os Estados Unidos. O pavilhão de Portugal daria depois origem ao consulado português naquela cidade, que ainda subsiste. Estava em discussão no Funchal, ou não, o decreto 12.514 de 25 de abril de 1927, onde se determinava a entrega do Palácio da Junta Geral e seus anexos, ou Palácio da Encarnação à Comissão Diocesana do Funchal. A base do decreto era ter sido aquele edifício o antigo seminário diocesano da Encarnação, nacionalizada pela Primeira República, mas o que era uma meia-verdade, pois o antigo seminário tinha sido um edifício para 11 seminaristas e o edifício depois levantado, era para os cerca de 500 funcionários da Junta Geral. |
