edit| Description |
English: This gun battery is located near the Cape Roseway Lighthouse, it is armed with two American-made 10-inch M1888 guns on M1893 barbette carriages, of which only one still remains as a rusted relic. The guns had a range of 16 kilometers (10 miles) and were used in Washington, SC during WW1 and brought to Mc Nutt's Island in 1941.
The guns were Garrisoned by the 104th Coast Artillery Battery. They were part of Fort McNutt because of the threat of German submarine activity. The Port of Shelburne was designated as an alternate port to Halifax Harbour during WWII should Halifax have been rendered useless. The Gun emplacement #2 is in good condition and still on its mount. |
